What is a Basic Electronics Technician?

Electronics technicians help design, develop, test, install, and repair electronic equipment such as communication equipment, medical monitoring devices, navigational equipment, and computers. Electronics technicians may also work as sales workers or field representatives for manufacturers or wholesalers giving advice on the complex equipment. Program Overview

The Basic Electronics Technician program offers a sequence of courses (270 hours total) which are designed to prepare individuals for employment in various manufacturing environments. This course includes face-to-face instruction and significant amounts of lab and hands-on experiences. While individuals are encouraged to complete the entire sequence of courses (listed below), a course may be taken as an individual stand-alone course with prior instructor approval.

Technical Math

15 hours
This is a required prerequisite for all following courses, ensuring students have the mathematical foundation necessary to be successful with future coursework.

Students may “test-out” by passing a Technical Math pre-test with 80% or better. Pre-test offered at the main office on a walk-in basis. Test cost is $99.00. Call 918.331.3333 for more information.

Intro to Process Technology

30 hours | 5 weeks

This 5-week course will introduce students to process operations in the petrochemical industry, including operator roles, responsibilities and expectations, plant terminology, safety and environmental responsibilities, applied chemistry, applied physics, plant equipment, utility systems, product handling, flow diagrams, general process overviews, basics of process control, and plan organizations. This course will also include training in blueprint reading and tube bending.

DC Circuit Analysis

45 hours | 7.5 weeks

This course provides an introduction to basic electricity, including electrical properties of materials, units, basic electrical laws and theorems, and electrical circuits and components. Students will also be introduced to electronic design software used in troubleshooting circuits.

AC Circuit Analysis

45 hours | 7.5 weeks

This course provides an introduction to alternating current electricity. Students will study the characteristics of sine wave, including amplitude, frequency, period, and phase relationships. Students will also analyze AC circuits by use of AC network theorems, resonant circuits, and filter circuits. This course will also include basic electric motors and circuit control components.

Digital Circuits

45 hours | 7.5 weeks

This course is a comprehensive study of the principles and techniques of the modern digital system. Topics covered include number of systems and codes, logic gates and Boolean algebra, combinational logic circuits, flip-flops and related devices, arithmetic circuits, counters and registers, MSI logic circuits, analog conversion, memory devices, and integrated-circuit logic families.

Advanced Digital Circuits

45 hours | 7.5 weeks

This course builds on the previous Digital Circuits course.

Linear Amplifiers

45 hours | 7.5 weeks

This course is a comprehensive study of the principles and techniques of linear and operational amplifiers. Topics include amplifier concepts and applications, different classes of amplifiers, and breadboarding.
