Program Overview

The Measurement and Maintenance Technician program offers a sequence of courses (270 hours total) which are designed to prepare individuals for employment in various manufacturing environments. This course includes face-to-face instruction and significant amounts of lab and hands-on experiences. While individuals are encouraged to complete the entire sequence of courses (listed below), a course may be taken as an individual stand-alone course with prior instructor approval.

Sequence of Courses

  • Technical Math

    • 15 hours / 2.5 weeks
    • This is a required prerequisite for all following courses, ensuring students have the mathematical foundation necessary to be successful with future coursework.
    • Students may “test-out” by passing a Technical Math pre-test with 80% or better. Pre-test offered at the main office on a walk-in basis. Call 918.331.3333 for more information.

  • Introduction to Process Technology

    • 30 hours / 5 weeks
    • This course will introduce students to process operations in the petrochemical industry, including operator roles, responsibilities and expectations, plant terminology, safety and environmental responsibilities, applied chemistry, applied physics, plant equipment, utility systems, product handling, flow diagrams, general process overviews, basics of process control, and plan organizations. This course will also include training in blueprint reading and tube bending.

  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics

    • 45 hours / 7.5 weeks
    • This course will be a study of hydraulic and pneumatic systems as they relate to fluids, energy and power pumps, pumps, actuators, control devices, flow distribution, and industrial applications.

  • Motor Control

    • 45 hours / 7.5 weeks
    • In this course, students will learn industry-relevant skills, including how to operate, install, design, and troubleshoot AC electric motor control circuits for various applications. The course covers electric relay control of AC electric motors found in industrial, commercial, and residential applications. Students will become better prepared for what they will encounter on the job and will work with major components such as a control transformer, reversing contactors, a manual motor starter, a multi-function timer, and control relays.

  • Programmable Control

    • 45 hours / 7.5 weeks
    • This course is a study of programmable controllers as they relate to the control of automated systems. Included is a study of the memory system and I/O interaction, specifications, wiring, logic concepts, number systems and codes, the instruction set, ladder logic programming, and application problems.

  • Industrial Instrumentation

    • 45 hours / 7.5 weeks
    • In this course students will learn electrical relay control of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and industry applications. Students will practice industry-relevant skills such as developing a sequence of operations given an application, connecting and operating an indicator lamp given a ladder diagram, and many more. Students will set up a variety of industrial relay control circuits using ladder diagrams and Boolean logic. Some of these components include selector, pushbutton, limit and pressure switches, control and timer relays, and hydraulic and pneumatic directional control valves.

  • Industrial Instrumentation Communications

    • 45 hours / 7.5 weeks
    • This course will cover industrial communications taking place between electronic components such as computers, controllers, measuring instruments, displays, and printers. In this kind of communication, information in the form of digital or analog signals is transmitted over a serial, parallel, or Ethernet cable. Students will discuss and establish RS 232, RS485, 4-20 mA, 0-5 Volts, and Ethernet communication.
